12CLIP®

A new device for the insertion of the peripheral venous catheter in aseptic conditions

The recommendations of the World Health Organization establish that peripheral venous catheters can be inserted with non-sterile gloves but, simultaneously, it is stated that the insertion must be carried out under aseptic conditions. There is a profound contradiction between both recommendations, since the operator performing the insertion has to touch the proximal part of the catheter being inserted with non-sterile gloves, thus causing bacterial contamination of the catheter. This bacteria-contaminated catheter is a potential source of device-associated infections (phlebitis, thrombophlebitis) and potentially very serious complications (catheter-associated bacteremia).

To avoid contamination of the peripheral venous catheter at the time of insertion we have invented and patented
12CLIP®

It is a simple device that allows the insertion of the peripheral venous catheter under sterile conditions while the operator is wearing non-sterile gloves.

The use of 12CLIP® avoids bacterial contamination of the peripheral venous catheter at the time of insertion and prevents the development of infections associated with it.

12CLIP® is set to become part of the international standard on peripheral venous catheter insertion.
